Alice Babidge’s costume design is featured in KING LEAR at Sydney Theatre Company. The new production directed by Neil Armfield opened on Saturday 28th November.

“Monochromatic and modern dress, Neil Armfield’s production of Shakespeare’s tragedy pointedly offers little in the way of regal spectacle.”
“Stripped of the usual hoopla that comes with theatrical depictions of kingship (the crowns, the thrones, the bowing and scraping), Rush grows in stature the madder Lear becomes.”
Jason Blake, SMH

“Alice Babidge’s costumes move from the modern suits and gowns of the court into a kind of peasant roughness as the kingdom begins to fall apart. The characters look like they are dressed for a wilderness experience during the storm, until the nakedness of Edgar and Lear, wet and windblown, reminds us of how cold this world has become.”
John McCallum, The Australian

KING LEAR is playing at Roslyn Packer Theatre until 9th January 2016. Tickets are available at STC website.
