RUBEN GUTHRIE has been announced to open Sydney Film Festival on June 3.

Cowell commented to IF:
“I am beyond excited to have my first film open the Sydney Film Festival. To screen this very Sydney story to a packed house at the State Theatre is a dream come true, and I can’t wait for audiences to enjoy this comic tale of love, loss and liquor.”

The Festival Director Nashen Moodley also was interviewed by IF:
“It is a marvellous directorial debut for Brendan Cowell – hard-hitting, touching and surprisingly funny, an intensely human film that represents the best of Australian screen production.”

The movie is based on Cowell’s play of the same name originally staged at Belvoir. Please read more in SMH article.

The film will open in cinemas nationally on July 16. To watch the trailer, click here.
