LOVE AND INFORMATION opens to rave reviews

Malthouse and Sydney Theatre Company’s co-production of Caryl Churchill’s LOVE AND INFORMATION is directed by Kip Williams and designed by David Fleischer. The production which opened at the Malthouse on 16th June is playing until 4th July. The play will then transfer to Sydney Theatre Company for a season from 9th July to 15th August.

Summary of some of the reviews:

“Director Kip Williams and his cast have built a wild and dazzling array of worlds.”

“This is a near-perfect production of a startlingly good play… See this play. It will change you.” Bryon Bache, Herald Sun

“Director Kip Williams and a strong ensemble cast have wrested a stylish, vibrant and detailed humanist tapestry from this challenging text, augmented by clever modular set design (Dave Fleischer)… It’s intellectually and emotionally probing theatre that feels utterly fresh.” Cameron Woodhead,  The Age/SMH
“…. this wondrous, faceted production. Different people will see different brilliancies”

“the action takes place in what might be a sort of white-walled laboratory, a place to study successive, mutant forms. Designer David Fleischer furnishes this bare set with movable white blocks and a few simple props, enough to give specificity to each new scene: a glass of wine, a television, a potted tree or a bouquet of red flowers.

“Williams’ production is consistently bright and snappy, vivid even in its funeral scenes; although he is almost half a century younger than Churchill, Williams is an ideal interpreter for this preternaturally inspired playwright. They’re both artists who strive always to get the most from theatre as a medium, constantly testing the formal limits of what can be done on stage.”   Andrew Fuhrmann, Daily Review
