Directors

Steven Arriagada is an Indigenous Chilean-Italian screenwriter and director. Steven has lived experience within Australian crime networks and works as a consultant with this expertise on film and television projects. Demonstrating his versatility Steven was also a core writer on Stan’s heartwarming hit series BUMP in it’s first two seasons, writing four episodes and crafting the series with the key creators.

Kit is a London-based playwright and screenwriter. Kit was a writer on Season 2 of TROPPO which was Top Ten on Amazon Prime in the US for over 4 weeks on release in July 2024. His original television series WATER’S EDGE is currently in development with iTV and UNINVITED GUESTS was a finalist in the Studio21 Drama Series competition.

Produced plays include THE STONES (Signal House/King’s Head Theatre), THE PLANT (Ensemble Theatre), THE GREAT FIRE (Belvoir), A RABBIT FOR KIM JONG-IL (Griffin), SMALL AND TIRED (Belvoir) and NIGHT MAYBE.

Helena Brooks is based in Australia. Brooks recently directed crime-comedy POPULATION 11 starring Ben Feldman for Lionsgate/Jungle and was set-up director on the CBS Studios/ABC comedy GOLD DIGGERS. She was nominated for Best TV Comedy Direction at the 2023 ADG Awards. Dramas include set-up director for THE BAD SEED, reviewed as the best New Zealand noir since TOP OF THE LAKE, Sundance NOW’s THE GULF, THE BROKENWOOD MYSTERIES and ABC’s THE MESSENGER.

She directed Celeste Barber’s WELLMANIA for Netflix, Rose Matafeo’s FUNNY GIRLS and she co-wrote and directed Palme d’Or nominated short film NOTHING SPECIAL.

Nick Coyle is a television writer and theatre-maker. Renowned for his solo shows which he has toured around the world Nick created, wrote, directed and starred in webseries SARAHS CHANNEL which played at Comicon in 2019.

Nick has written eight episodes of television series BUMP across two seasons and returns for more episodes in Series 5, he wrote on Netflix’s WELLMANIA, QUEERSTRALIA for the ABC and ITS FINE, IM FINE for SBS On Demand. His play, THE FEATHER IN THE WEB, had its world premiere at Griffin Theatre Company in 2018 and was published by Currency Press and nominated for a NSW Premier’s Literary Award.

Charles Firth is a writer, director, producer and actor. He is currently touring stage shows including WANKERNOMICS and THE WAR ON … and is also in post-production on ABC-Comedy scripted series OPTICS which he has produced, created, written and stars in.

Declan Greene is a theatre-maker, director, playwright, screenwriter and dramaturg. He is currently Artistic Director at Griffin Theatre Company, where he works closely on new Australian writing and productions. In addition he is a celebrated writer and director; of many plays and television including scripting one episode of INVISIBLE BOYS which first aired in 2025.

Andrew Kavanagh is a writer, director and composer. Andrew directed and produced VICE Australia’s flagship series: AUSTRALIANA, broadcast on SBS Viceland.

Ismail Khan is a Sydney based screenwriter and director with Wailwan and Pakistani heritage

Ana Kokkinos is a director, screenwriter and producer. Her award-winning feature films, which include ONLY THE BRAVE, HEAD ON and BLESSED are considered to be some of the most groundbreaking and distinctive works in Australian cinema.

As a director in TV, her work couldn’t be more diverse. She has directed episodes of THE SECRET LIFE OF US and the AACTA winning children’s show EUGENIE SANDLER PI. She’s directed episodes of some of our most celebrated drama series – SEVEN TYPES OF AMBIGUITY, THE HUNTING and FIRES.

More recently, she worked on the BBC/STAN co-production TEN POUND POMS, the highest rating new drama for the BBC in 2023. In 2024, Ana returned as co-executive producer and set-up director for three episodes in Series 2.

Josh Lawson is an Oscar-nominated writer and producer for short film THE ELEVEN O’CLOCK. Josh wrote and directed two feature films THE LITTLE DEATH and LONG STORY SHORT. The foreign remake rights have sold to many territories of these films and they have been remade in mulitple foreign language versions. His earlier short film, AFTER THE CREDITS won Best Comedy at the LA Shorts Fest.

Pernell Marsden is a writer, director and production designer who has worked in the film industry in Australia and the UK since 2011. She began her career assistant directing and in production departments, where she worked on productions for Disney and the BBC. With a decade of experience in television, features, commercials and web series, Charmaine has worked her way up through the industry and has been mentored by acclaimed filmmakers. She is currently in late stage development on her debut feature film PRAWN CURRY CHRISTMAS with producers Leanne Tonkes, Melissa Russo, Yasmin Kassim and Mike Cowap. Charmaine will attend the 2025 MIFF Accelerator Lab and is developing the series she created HIT REPEAT.

Gideon founded Chunky Move in 1995 and was the company’s artistic director until 2012. Gideon’s works have been performed in many festivals and theatres around the world in the UK, Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Trent O’Donnell is one of Australia’s most successful television directors and showrunners. He directs COLIN FROM ACCOUNTS created by Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer and received a 2023 AACTA Award nomination for Best Direction in Drama or Comedy for this work.

Trent set-up and Executive Produced series POPULATION 11 starring Ben Feldman. In the US Trent set-up, Executive Produced and directed more than 15 episodes of CBS hit remake of GHOSTS and he also directed Season 2 finale of the Emmy Award winning series HACKS starring Jean Smart.

Gracie won 2025 AACTA Awards for Best Documentary (OTTO BY OTTO) and Best TV Series (HEARTBREAK HIGH) which she set up and directed eight episodes of. Gracie has directed premium television including THE CLEARING (Disney+), DEADLOCH (Amazon Studios), HEARTBREAK HIGH (Netflix) and excellent documentaries including THE LAST IMPRESARIO and UNDER THE VOLCANO. Gracie works in fashion and beauty content and has done stand up and storytelling all her life.

Marion is an award-winning Australian theatre director.

Hannah Reilly is an award winning Australian writer, director, lyricist and performer.

Australian director and writer whose stage and screen work includes opera and international musicals, including three era-defining musicals HAIR (Sydney, Tokyo, Boston), JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (Australia, UK) and THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW (UK, USA, Australia), countless premieres and radical interpretations of classics, including works by Shakespeare, Mozart, Strindberg and Brecht.

Jeremy is a director, producer and writer of film, television and theatre. His feature films have been nominated for 25 AACTA awards.

Adrian is an AACTA-nominated writer and director; a Wonnarua man he comes from a strong line of ancient storytellers who maintained their culture, law and language through song, dance, and remarkable visual art which stands among the oldest in the world.

Adrian’s television writing and directing experience is extensive over a 20 year period; he wrote and directed on RFDS Seasons 2 and 3; was a core writer on THE NEWSREADER (for which he was nominated for a 2023 AACTA Award for Best Screenplay in Television); a core writer on upcoming TOP END BUB for Amazon Studios; and he wrote and directed two episodes of Blackfella Films’ landmark drama series REDFERN NOW for ABC-TV.

Kip Williams is a multi-award winning director of theatre and opera.

In February 2024 Williams’ acclaimed adaption of The Picture of Dorian Gray opened to rave reviews and standing ovations on the West End at the Theatre Royal Haymarket starring Sarah Snook as the solo performer. Conceived, written and directed by Williams, the produciton had its premiere at Sydney Theatre Company in November 2020 where it was met with a slew of five star reviews.
