A new telemovie, MARY: THE MAKING OF A PRINCESS, written by Samantha Strauss for FremantleMedia, aired on Channel 10 on November 15. Sam’s writing has been commended for keeping the production lighthearted and “completely charming.”
Melinda Houston of the SMH commented of the production that “while certainly adhering firmly to the fairy tale template [it] feels consistently lively, fresh and modern. One suspects that’s largely thanks to writer Samantha Strauss, one of the creators of the award-winning Dance Academy. Although pitched at a younger audience, the ABC3 series delivered an appealing mix of fairy tale (kids following their dance dreams), believably flawed characters, equally believable age-appropriate romance, and an intelligent examination of the challenges the diverse group of kids faced. Strauss brings that same deft touch to this familiar story.”
