Reviews in for JASPER JONES, designed by Mel Page and Michael Hankin
The stageplay adaptation of JASPER JONES has opened at Belvoir and the set design by Michael Hankin and costume design by Mel Page have been receiving rave reviews.
Jason Blake of the SMH remarked that “Michael Hankin’s thoughtful design distils the story’s locations into a pair of moveable, reversible front porches that serve as Charlie’s house, neighbouring friend Jeffrey’s place, and the decrepit home of Corrigan’s very own Boo Radley, “Mad Jack” Lionel. The set’s constant is a large ghost gum, whose limbs and branches snake their way into Matt Scott’s lighting grid.’’
Likewise Ben Neutze of the Daily Review thought that “the technical elements are all right on target, including Mel Page’s period costumes, and Michael Hankin’s set, complete with a beautiful, towering gum tree.’’
Further glowing reviews on the design elements have been written by Cassie Tongue of Aussie Theatre, Rebecca Whitton of Australian Stage and Dee Jefferson of Time Out.
