YULDEA – Reviews
★★★★ “A visually rich production” Time Out
Set Designer Elizabeth Gadsby and Costume Designer Jennifer Irwin, both represented by Yellow and creatives on Bangarra Dance Theatre’s newest production YULDEA, currently playing at the Sydney Opera House until 15 July.
“The set designed by Elizabeth Gadsby is formed principally of two arcs. Married with Karen Norris’ lighting design, the result is a sculptural simplicity that acts in concert with all other elements of this production to create an aesthetic that’s highly stylised, functional and understated.
The costume design by Jennifer Irwin must also be mentioned in terms of its role in storytelling. Organic and asymmetrical, the fabric choices, colour and movement of these pieces are all breathtaking. Every piece is a sculptural exemplar in its own right.”
“A simple but eloquent set by Elizabeth Gadsby.”
“Jennifer Irwin’s inventive costuming uses all manner of different fabrics, including floating tulle and earthy coloured crochet, to suggest everything from bubbling water to shredded clothing after the atomic testing.”
