Kit Brookman is a London-based playwright and screenwriter.
Kit’s screenwriting television debut came on Season 2 of TROPPO which placed in the Top Ten most watched programs on Amazon Prime in the US for over 4 weeks on release in July 2024. He writes original ideas and pilots for television productions and is developing these with a number of producers. His original series WATER’S EDGE is currently in development with Silverprint Pictures and UNINVITED GUESTS was a finalist in the 2021 Studio21 Drama Series competition.
His work for theatre includes new plays commissioned by established theatre companies as well as projects created in collaboration with independent ensembles. His plays have been widely performed in Australia, where he is originally from.
Produced plays include THE STONES (Signal House/King’s Head Theatre), WHALESONG (East 15 School of Acting) MOUNTAIN (Geelong Arts Centre), CLOSE (The Signal House) THE PLANT (Ensemble Theatre, Sydney), THE GREAT FIRE (Belvoir St Theatre), A RABBIT FOR KIM JONG-IL(Griffin Theatre Company), NORA (after Ibsen’s A Doll’s House; co-writer, Belvoir), SMALL AND TIRED(Belvoir), NIGHT MAYBE (Stuck Pigs Squealing Theatre), and HEAVEN (Old 505 Theatre). His poetry has appeared in journals including HEAT, Southerly, and Harvest. His plays are published by Currency Press and at the Australian Script Centre.
Kit has been an Associate Playwright at Belvoir St Theatre and a Resident Writer at Griffin Theatre Company. Awards include the 2017 Rodney Seaborn Award, the Ensemble Theatre New Writing Commission and the Philip Parsons Young Playwrights’ Fellowship.
Directing work includes the world premieres of THE STONES, HEAVEN, SMALL AND TIRED and Zoë Coombs-Marr’s IS THIS THING ON? for Belvoir St Theatre. Kit was an assistant director on Belvoir’s productions of BABYTEETH, PRIVATE LIVES, and CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF.
He is a founding member of The Signal House, a new work company based in London. And he is a co-editor of The Signal House Edition.
