“Deftly handled, with just enough of an anchor in real Aussie life to keep you hooked to the very end.” Karl Quinn in The Sydney Morning Herald on FAMILY NEXT DOOR

Sarah Scheller is an award-winning Australian screenwriter and showrunner, creating some of Australia’s biggest recent television series.

Sarah recently showran THE FAMILY NEXT DOOR for ABC TV and Beyond Productions. It was a big hit for the broadcaster especially with younger audiences. Sarah showran two series of ensemble dramedy STRIFE for Binge in Australia where she worked with Made Up Stories as producers. STRIFE was BINGE’s all-time biggest original series premiere.

In an incredible entrée into screenwriting Sarah’s first television script, THE LETDOWN pilot, won the AACTA Award in 2016 for Best Television Screenplay. THE LETDOWN was subsequently commissioned for two series by ABC-TV and Netflix. The series is popular on Netflix globally and was nominated for and won multiple awards including Best Comedy Program at the 2019 AACTA Awards.  Sarah was nominated for Best Direction in a Television Drama or Comedy at the 2019 AACTA awards for her work on the second series.

Sarah is developing several original properties of her own, and she is also writing an episode of an anthology series for Hoodlum and Margot Robbie’s company Lucky Chap. Previously screenwriting work includes contributions to the ABC’s THE ELEGANT GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO KNIFE FIGHTING and Stan’s NO ACTIVITY.

Scheller’s voice is defined by emotional authenticity, dark humour and a sharp eye for the messiness of modern life. She crafts flawed, deeply human characters whose vulnerabilities make her stories both disarmingly funny and quietly unsettling. Sarah started her career in public relations and then fashion journalism. As a freelance writer, she has written for the Sydney Morning Herald, Harper’s Bazaar and The Guardian.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts/Communications (Journalism).
