Tess is a costume designer who works across film, television, opera and theatre. Tess has won five AACTA Awards for Best Costume Design in a Feature Film and won Green Room, Helpmann and Sydney Theatre Critics Awards for her costume design in opera and theatre.

Tess recently designed costumes for Leah Purcell’s feature film THE DROVERS WIFE and Jeremy Sims’ RAMS, both films slated for release in 2020 / 2021.

Tess costume designed television series’ HARROW, TIDELANDS, THE LETDOWN and THE KETTERING INCIDENT.

In 2015 Tess won the AACTA award for Best Costume Design in a Feature for THE WATER DIVINER and in 2016 was nominated for feature film DANCE ACADEMY THE MOVIE.

Previously Tess won Best Costume Design in a Feature Film AACTA awards for THE SAPPHIRES, SPOTSWOOD, DIRTY DEEDS and BOOTMEN and she received a nomination for MR RELIABLE. Tess costume designed feature films COSI, RADIANCE, DIANA AND ME, SUBTERRANEO and GREENKEEPING and feature documentary UNFOLDING FLORENCE.

Theatre work includes A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE and THE DIARY OF A MADMAN both of which traveled to BAM in New York. Tess has worked extensively at Belvoir and Sydney Theatre Company in Sydney career highlights include: THINGS I KNOW TO BE TRUE, THE SECRET RIVER, NAMATJIRA, THE WILD DUCK, THE ADVENTURES OF SNUGGLEPOT AND CUDDLEPIE and LITTLE RAGGED BLOSSOM, CLOUDSTREET (including world tour), TOY SYMPHONY, THE JUDAS KISS, THE SEAGULL, RIFLEMIND, THE GREAT, FAR AWAY and VICTORY. Tess recently designed Big hArt’s HIPBONE STICKING OUT and Belvoir’s production of MISS JULIE.

Tess’ opera costume design includes: LA TRAVIATA staged on Sydney Harbour by Opera Australia; SWEENEY TODD for the Lyric Opera Chicago and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and PETER GRIMES for Opera Australia and Houston Grand Opera. Tess’s musical theatre credits include SHANE WARNE THE MUSICAL, SPRING AWAKENING and CHESS.
