Jean Mostyn
Founder and DirectorJean Mostyn is the founder and CEO of Yellow Creative Management with 25 years’ experience as a literary manager. Under her leadership, and because she has no life, Yellow continues to experience strong growth year-on-year. Jean holds a BA in Communications (Journalism) from Charles Sturt University and is currently undertaking a Master of Fine Arts (Cultural Leadership) at NIDA.
Jean represents a stellar roster of showrunners, Directors and HODs. Current clients include Sam Strauss, Gracie Otto, Elise McCredie, Sarah Scheller, Anchuli Felicia King, Kip Williams, Trent O’Donnell, Angela Betzien, Adrian Russell Wills, Alice Babidge, Hannah Reilly, Josh Lawson, Katie Milwright and Tania Lambert. During their time with Yellow they have worked on and/or created THE END, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, DANCE ACADEMY (Sam Strauss), STRIFE, THE LETDOWN (Sarah Scheller), THE CLEARING, STATELESS (Elise McCredie), THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY (Kip Williams) and THE SYMPATHIZER, MARY AND GEORGE and WHITE PEARL (Anchuli Felicia King), GHOSTS, COLIN FROM ACCOUNTS and NO ACTIVITY (Trent O’Donnell) and many set-up but as-yet-unannounced projects.
Jean has worked closely on the set-up of PICKING SCABS, a joint venture production company for Samantha Strauss with Emile Sherman and See-Saw.
In 2019 Jean executive produced SARAH’S CHANNEL – a webseries made with Screen Australia and Screen NSW – as a showcase for longstanding creative client, Nick Coyle. Yellow’s Karen Colston produced the series. It has transformed Nick’s creative process and led to a strong new vein of work as a screenwriter in television.
In Australia Jean has spoken at, participated in and/or advised on policy and industry matters with Screen Australia, the AWG, ADG, AFTRS, NIDA, Gender Matters, CAL, CAST theatre companies and Playwriting Australia. Jean has attended the Cannes, Toronto and Telluride Festivals with clients for world premieres (as well as SFF and MIFF here in Australia of course).
Before launching Yellow, Jean worked at HLA Management for a decade where she worked closely with Tony McNamara on THE GREAT and other projects, Justin Kurzel as he launched his feature career and on the international playwriting projects of Andrew Bovell.
Jean enjoys contributing positively to change wherever it is both necessary and possible. A longtime proponent of equal pay for Costume Designers (equal with Production Designers) she is pleased to see this change taking root across the industry. And as her clients’ careers mature she is passionate about creating new opportunities for creators to retain some control over their material and a larger stake in the financial rewards in success. Jean is committed to building a future where artists are given more responsibility to achieve financial sustainability as successful businesses in and of their own right.
In her spare time she volunteers at the local after school centre which her young children attend. She chairs the centre’s management committee which is responsible for over 200 children daily and a staff of 23 young people. She can’t imagine how anyone can possibly work without being able to send their kids somewhere after school each day, and it’s her way of giving back.
