Charmaine Murray is an Australian/Thai director working across drama and comedy, based in Perth, Western Australia. With a decade of experience in television, features, commercials and web series, Charmaine has worked her way up through the industry and has been mentored by acclaimed filmmakers including, Trent O’Donnell, Jeffrey Walker, Gracie Otto, and Lorcan Finnegan, on productions such as THE SURFER, THE ARTFUL DODGER and POPULATION 11.
Supported by Screenwest, Charmaine has undertaken multiple director attachments, including Jungle’s GOOD COP BAD COP for Stan with director Anne Renton, and the Warner Bros./Binge series LAM with director Bonnie Moir.
She is currently in late stage development on her debut feature film PRAWN CURRY CHRISTMAS with producers Leanne Tonkes, Melissa Russo, Yasmin Kassim and Mike Cowap, a romantic comedy written by Yasmin Kassim and Menik Gooneratne, due to commence shooting in 2026 with WEST COAST VISIONS funding from Screenwest, Screen Australia and Lotterywest. Charmaine will attend the 2025 MIFF Accelerator Lab and is developing the series she created HIT REPEAT.
Charmaine recently directed and co-wrote the dark comedy short THE CLOSER alongside award-winning writer Phil Lloyd. The film is in post-production and stars Phil Lloyd, Nicholas Burton and Tim Matthews.
In 2024, Charmaine served as Second Unit Director on the US/Australian TV series SUNNY NIGHTS for Jungle Entertainment, working alongside Trent O’Donnell. The series, set to premiere on STAN, stars Will Forte, D’Arcy Carden and Rachel House. She previously directed Splinter Unit on Paul Goldman’s feature KID SNOW, starring Billy Howle, Tom Bateman and Phoebe Tonkin.
Charmaine has directed numerous music videos, earning nominations at the WA Screen Culture Awards and winning at the Clipped Music Video Festival. She teaches directing and assistant directing at North Metropolitan TAFE in Perth.
